Test Preparation and the 2nd Mental Math

For those who attended Mr. M's class or were absent on September 28, our grade 10 class is having a math test on Thursday, September, 30th. We started off the class with the 2nd mental math of the semester (There are 20 mental math activities in the semester). We then discussed several tips in helping everyone study for the test. I will post them below.

Good luck on thursday everybody!

Mental Math

We had our first real mental math today. If you were away for some reason ask Mr. Maksymchuk for the mental math handout. Also ask him for an accelerated math handout.

Volume of Pyramids and Cones

So, Today in class we learned how to do the volume of pyramids and cones.

*To the left is an example of how to find a multiplication of 3

*Below is how to find the volume of a cone and pyramid

* This is the formula for volume

*these are strategies to find the volume

Well, that's about it, except for the homework which is on page 42,
A-all
B-17 & 18

Volume and surface area of spheres

Alright. In class we learned about volume and surface area of spheres. So a sphere is basically a bunch of spheres grouped together at different angles that creates a 3-d circle called a sphere.

Basically all you have to do is multiply 4 by pi, then by that short little line from the center to the outside (radius) squared, and you get your surface area.

Volume is basically the same thing just you multiply by 4/3 instead of 4 and the radius is cubed.

Now that you think you know what you need to do good luck.

Misery loves company.

Are you lost? Are you terrified of having a test? How's it going? What's the semester shaping up to look like? Anything brilliant you'd like to share?

This blog is for communication as well as for learning. Post often, if you think it might make you more successful as a learner....

Have a great day.

volumes

OK. So in class we found out how to get the volume of a prisim by using B.h . B= area of 1 "face" and the h= the height of the faces. So base time height = the area of 1 face. Times that number buy the number of  faces on the object and you will get the T.S.A.

Review of Monday September 20th's Class

a poloygon is an inclosed shape with more than 2 sides.

all of the formulas can be found in your text book.

the pyraimd will always be a right pyraimd if the base is a square.

On Monday's class we were introduced to right pyramid's. We learnt how to figure out the total surface area and the total lateral area. Total surface area is all of the sides and the bottom. Total Lateral area is all of the sides but no bottom. A polygon that is equilateral has all the same sides, and a polygon that is equiangular has all the same angles.
If you miss class:
#1 - check the blog
#2 - talk to classmates
#3 - talk to Mr.Maksymchuk
Mr.Maysymchuk is availble for homework help on thursdays till 5 o'clock.

Mental Math

So friday in math Mr. Maksymchuk showed us how mental math will be done through out the semester. We didnt have a long class on friday so we just focused on mental math. Mr. Maksymchuk also gave us a problem (above left) at the end of class to go home and try to figure out. I never did it and i highly doubt anybody else did either :p.
